Why Leaders Should Mind Their Language

Your language says more about you and your team than you think. Be more inclusive and less negative.

Working together is communication. Teamwork is communication. Every interaction is communication.

You always leave some space for miscommunication, bias, and misunderstanding. I sometimes wonder how we can even understand each other.

Language plays a huge role in our everyday routine. It defines us and others. It tells you what success and failure are.

Leaders should pay attention to what they say. Different people understand things differently. In the end, some see the glass as half full while others see it as half empty.

Your opinion matters

If you are in a leadership position, you make an impact. You decide what is going to happen and why. Your approval, opinion, and understanding are crucial for the next steps.

This is even more critical in a ladder-structured environment. The title gives you authority and responsibility. So, the way you see things sets the pace.

If you like some ideas, they are likely to be implemented. If you are against them, they will end up in the trash.
